Taking in a concert at the Commodore has usually been a memorable experience for me. This time was no different, although less from the music than from the fun and freaky friends who came along: my t-girlfriend Shannon, a t-s escort in a sailor suit with blinking lights, two t-girls in guy mode, and a couple of genetic girls, one a pro-domme, cross-dressed as men. Our sassy, sailor gurl and one of the boys went ahead to secure a table. The rest of us took a cab over about an hour later.

This was our first time out at a rock concert en-femme, so we weren't sure what to expect. The surprisingly high proportion of straight people was well behaved for the most part, and not overtly judgmental toward us. I felt great in my new, wavy blonde hair, purple pvc pencil skirt and jacket zipped low, and black patent five-inch metal-heeled spikes. Shannon was wearing her new short, feathered wig that we had picked out together, with a cute fuzzy black cap, low-cut pink and black top, very short, black pleated skirt, and black leather four-inch pumps. A fake Chinese script tattoo on her left ankle rounded off the look. The translation? Slut! Initially, at least, folks probably thought two hetero couples were having fun or out on a dare: the two boys in drag, the two girls in drab. This perception probably changed abruptly for anyone seeing the two mustachioed ‘boys' smooching with each other, or the two tall ‘girls' doing same.

The opening act was some kind of techno-fusion duo, including a very young-looking kid working one of the synthesizers. We didn't pay attention to the second act as the alcohol and drugs began to take hold at our table. There is even some dispute whether there was a second act! My pretty slut gave me a fantastic massage to soothe my oft-abused tootsies. I enjoyed it rather expressively, which in turn garnered the kind of attention that most of us t-gs go out of our way to create.

Before the main attraction took to the stage, Shannon and I wandered around, exploring and people watching. We noticed several guys staring at our legs. Occasionally, we stopped and necked, since we usually have a hard time keeping our hands off of each other. I saw and talked to Velvet Steel, a well-known t-s and her husband, Ray. Shannon spotted another t-s escort, Hailey Storm, whom Shannon had met online, and we chatted briefly. We then recognized another t-s from the ads she runs in the back of select papers, but didn't approach her.

Finally, Nina Hagen made her appearance, and started off with a bang. Her first few numbers were up-tempo; we started getting into it. I trail-blazed our way to the second row of people from the stage - no mean feat in five-inch stilettos! Evil pig-tails, and intense eyes are what I remember most about the still youthful-looking diva. Unfortunately, those eyes were never directed at anyone. I was disappointed with the band's lack of interaction with the audience. Even those close to the stage were totally ignored, as the band lapsed into slower, more obscure tunes (probably the newer ones). Soon, the quintet became almost indistinguishable, at least in sound, from average rock or even country bands. I was surprised too that she failed to change costume, unlike the drag queens that she frequently resembles. The pace picked up a little later on, but by the end, I only recognized one of her songs.

Ultimately, the concert left my clitty somewhat limp. Raised expectations are never a good idea, so I had tried to keep them in check. Even with that precaution, I couldn't help but feel a little unhappy. What did our friends think? All except one agreed, but he was pretty wasted! What about the rest of the evening? Our two lesbian friends left early because one had consumed too many hallucinogens. The sailor presumably picked up a client from the maybe not so straight crowd. One of the boys left immediately following the second encore, feeling poorly after inadvertently mixing a cold remedy with alcohol. The other guy left right away too, needing to arise a little later that very morning. Shannon and I flagged a cab, more easily than I had thought possible at that party hour, and returned to my place. We stayed up much too late - as usual - but successfully re-ignited the party spirit...
